fter living in our home for over a year I am finally ready to commit to some more permanent design plans.  (I am super slow to make decisions about purchases for my house.  I love mood boards, but typically I wait for one piece to inspire the next.)  While some of these items may change this is my overall aspirational mood I'm going for.  I want to play with light and dark as well as warm tones and cozy textures so the space feels interesting and homey.  I'm planing to keep the bed linens white with a contrasting throw for a relaxed informal vibe.

BEING WRAPPED IN A DARK SOOTHING PAINT COLOR

My mind has been racing lately with work in the best kind of way, but I have also realized a big part of what I need to operate is rest and I need a place that inspires good dreams and deep sleep.  I'm not the best at relaxing and I run anxious.  When thinking about designing a room I have learned to first ask, what will I be doing in the space?  What does my psyche need?  For my bedroom a dark space to help unwind along with good black out shades or curtains are feeling like a must for me lately.  As I get older my sleep and rest feel even more important.  On the other side of that I have learned that while working or feeling creative, natural light and white spaces are so necessary for my brain.  Our current hangout room is painted Pigeon by Farrow & Ball.  It is a medium grey that goes from green to blue depending on the light.  I love it!  I have noticed that I feel the most at ease and relaxed while I sit in that room so I wanted to carry that into our bedroom.

MANTLE DIY TBD

I plan on playing with a few mirror tiles like above to add interest.  Our mantel is pretty plain right now and I want to make it more of a focal point.  I'll share more details as I make decisions.  :)

A NEW PAINTING TECHNIQUE

I only plan to bring the dark paint about 3/4 the way up.  I will use photoshop to determine how far up the wall I will run the paint.  This is something new to me that I haven't tried and I'm wanting to experience something different. I love how when art etc. overlaps the intersection of the two paint colors as well as splitting the doors.

I have a few things ordered so the process has begun.  I'll update the post as I share more.

P.S. If you are wondering about a rug, it may take some time to find the right one.  Only time will tell!
